It's just great to see a sea lion at play and this one is like a playful puppy never mind pup! I actually think he wants his tummy rubbed and is definitely loving the attention. Play gives a great sense of freedom that we can sometimes lose as adults, becoming too serious at times and simply losing our spontaneity and sense of fun. Having children can help retain our playfulness yet sadly sometimes adults are tired, fretful, impatient and instead of enjoy their children become annoyed and tell them off!
There are so many simlialarities between the infant behaviour of many species with some almost replicating human baby behaviour. I really believe we often underestimate the intelligence of animals. After all, there is still so much for us to find out about this world- how can we presume to know all there is to know about the functioning of animal brains? I remember being told that contrary to popular belief, owls are not wise in the slighest- but some humans can be pretty dumb at times too. Just think about some of those cop videos, hysterical, with people making elementary mistakes during robberies that are actually unbelieveable.
Watching this sea lion at play has a therapeautic effect and is relaxing, helping us unwind with the swish of the water...They have energy and grace. Roll on summer and for now, I think it's time to go go swimming!
